[mythtv-users] Using Hauppauge Grey remote with Packard-Bell receiver

I've got one of those cheap Packard Bell Fastmedia remotes with serial
receiver. After much tribulation, and some assistance from past
posters to this list, I've got it working with lirc and Myth.

(Note: the simple instructions in Jarod's guide did NOT work. It was
necessary to add "setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart none; /sbin/modprobe
lirc_serial" to my rc.local before the thing worked. When using
Jarod's method (putting "install lirc_serial /bin/setserial /dev/ttyS0
uart none ; # /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install lirc_serial" into
modprobe.conf), the lirc_serial module did get loaded but no data was
ever retrieved from the receiver).

Now that the Packard Bell remote and receiver are working, I can see
just what a rinky-dink piece of junk the remote is; and I happen to
have an extra Hauppauge grey remote. I've seen many postings
suggesting that the Packard Bell receiver will work fine with any
remote; so I'd like to get it working with my Hauppauge grey remote.
I've replaced the packard-bell lircd.conf with one for the Hauppauge,
but the result is no data visible in irw or even in mode2.

Has anyone by any chance got this combination (Packard Bell IR receiver
with Hauppauge grey remote) working?

Thanks,

Richard
