My 2 cents:

I used to use JFS for myth in an LVM partition, so I
could add storage easily. Seemed to work fine, but I
failed to do my research, so when it came time to add
a drive, I found out JFS didn't support expanding a
logical volume. I then switched to XFS, which does
support expansion, and it's been working fine for me
ever since. (I dunno, maybe JFS has added expansion
in logical volumes since the last year or so?)

FWIW the xfs and jfs choices were driven by
recommendations in the mythtv web docs. They do seem
to work. Deletions of large files are pretty quick.
