EIT has been working for a long time now (can't remember when, maybe
as far back as 0.16). I'd spot if it wasn't working as it's the only
way I can receive TV listings ;)

I think that the EIT thing is a red-herring here. Something (looking
like a possible driver / myth interaction) has caused a massive spike
in cpu usage, it's there with a 2.6.15 kernel and not there with a
2.6.8 kernel. In 0.19-fixes EIT consumes a not insignificant amount of
cpu but nothing drastic. Chances are that disabling it has brought you
back under 100% cpu usage but I doubt you're back to the normal levels
(i.e. there's a good possibility that you've fixed the symptom but not
the cause).

Out of interest, what kernel / dvb driver issue are you using, and
what is your cpu usage whilst recording now that you've disabled EIT?
