> Why did you need to recompile the nvidia driver?
In some cases I have to recompile the nvidia driver.
I am manging two backend/frontends and two frontends and all are plain
Jarod Wilson/atrpms installations. When I install the nvidia rpms, X
will not start because it can not find the nvidia kernel module.
Usually i can fix that by copying nvidia.ko from
/lib/modules/.../updates/... to /lib/modules/.../kernel/... but in
some cases it does not work.
I had one of these cases today when I upgraded one of the backend from
FC3 to FC4.
I then downloaded a package from nvidias homepage and that compiled a
driver for me that worked right away.
One of the frontends was updated from FC4 to FC5 and I tried both
approaches: Both the rpms and the compiling package from nvidia. None
of them worked. I tried two different kernels, but it did not work on
either of them. In all the cases the result was that the kernel module
could not be loaded and there were no further explanations given.
Maybe it has to do with the FC5/nvidia problems that have been reported earlier.
