The way liveTV works in MythTV is the same as a recording except you're
always watching while the recording is in progress. It's designed so you
can hit record partway through a program and save the whole thing, not just
the part after you hit record. It's designed so you can rewind/pause/fast
forward "live" TV. What you're asking for the system to do, if disk space
is low, is to delete any video currently in the buffer and start a new
buffer going forward in time from that moment. That functionality
completely breaks every feature I mentioned above.
What you are asking for is a way to watch live TV without any PVR
functions. You're trying to use a PVR for this. You're using the wrong
tool for the job.
I'm sorry that the capture card you bought doesn't work right with the
already existing great software that allows you to watch live TV without PVR
functions. That's not a MythTV problem. I'm sorry that the hard drive you
have is pitifully small for video storage. That's not a MythTV problem.
You've been given many, many, many options by a multitude of people, but not
one of them is acceptable to you. The answer here is not to change the
software that works wonderfully for most everyone else to fit your specific,
poorly-chosen hardware. If you want to run Myth, get a system that's
capable of running it correctly. If you just want to watch live TV get a
capture card that works with the software that does that.
