Not a general solution, but this is another good example of the benefit
of a two-part backend, that is, a tuner-less master backend remains
running all the time, and the tuners reside in a slave backend, which
can be turned off for the duration.

When I decided to adopt the two-part backend, I had not considered this
scenario, but it is an another example of the benefit of the two-part
architecture (for those of us with spare boxes lying around).
