Some suggestions:

knopmyth: 10.10.10.1
other box: 10.10.10.2

from the knopmyth box that cant ping the others:

ping 10.10.10.2  then control c out of it, or let it error out.
then type "arp -a"

if you see an entry for 4.3.2.1 in the arp table of the knopmyth box
then they are connected correctly and it has got to be a fw issue
somewhere.  If you have more than 2 machines make if if any of them
can ping each other.  It is possible that your knoppmyth box is the
machine configured for echo replies. If they are all windows machines,
the default for xp sp2 is to not answer echo requests.  Try turning
off all software based fws (including IPtables on the knoppmyth box)
Once you can ping, enable each software based fw one at a time unitl
you find which one is configured to block the requests.
