Can you view them with an image viewer?
If no, what are the sizes of the PNG files?
If 0 bytes, did you compile as backend only?
If yes compile the complete mythtv branch. Compiling as backend only does
not build the functionality that allows myth to create the png's.
Other than that I don't know what would be the problem. I'm using
