The USB is intended only for wireless adapters, but someone may have a
hack out there. Check out the forums at rokulabs.com

I don't think so. I've used a few different HD1000's on several
different TV's and I've never seen any problems. When you say your TV is
finicky, have you found component-out DVD players and other appliances
that don't work?  I think only Xorg has the issue, or possible video
card manufacturers.  Don't worry about the ROKU - it acts as it should.
