A good thing for cameras and other devices that arbitrarily hotplug
into PCs and which, with appropriate software, can auto-negotiate the
proper connections. Not so good with constantly plugged-in devices
like cable boxes hooked up to software (mythbackend) with hard-coded
settings that can't be changed without shutting and restarting the
entire software application down.

Ab-so-lutely! People already have to use plugreport to figure out the
node(s) to use, anyway, so being able to use the unchanging GUID would
be *great*.
