I installed MythTV a few weeks ago, and use it only for OTA HD.
For regular TV, I have DirecTV with Tivo. My thought so far is that
MythTV is neat, but has a long, long way to go still. My Tivo definitely
offers a much better user experience. If you want ease of use (and ease
of setup), get Tivo. If you also want to view pictures and listen to
music, get one of those networked DVD players in addition to the Tivo.

You definately don't need to invest "a few thousand" in a MythTV box
though. My machine ended up costing around $800 total. I thought it
was worth it because an HD-DirecTivo would have cost only a little less,
but would have been obsolete rather soon because DirecTV is switching
to mpeg-4, which the DirecTivo doesn't do.
