Steve.  Solved it.

though the file isn't referenced directly in any xml file, mythtv looks 
for a 'trans-xxxx' where xxxx in my theme is dbackground.png.

Copy ProjectGrayhem-wide/dbackground.png to 
ProjectGrayhem-wide/trans-dbackground.png

that should do the trick.

I'm updating the package now, doing some cleaning up as I go (removing 
extraneous .jbf files)
