I had this on my (non XvMC) laptop. I needed to uncheck "Use libmpeg"
in setup->tv->playback on the front end (this is all from memory so
the excact menu may be different). The comment when the checkbox is
active suggests that it may be faster, but I found it gave lots of
prebuffering pauses.
