[mythtv-users] Ensuring SA3200 is Always On for Channel Change

While changing the clock display on my Scientific Atlanta 3200 STB this
afternoon, I came across a great discovery...
The only problem I've ever had with IR blasting my SA3200 is that
sometimes I've missed a recording due to the cable company rebooting my
box periodically and when they do it turns off (even though it was on)
- most recently this happened about 3 weeks ago. Well this reboot
(presumably for a firmware upgrade) or one of the more recent ones was
well worth it. I noticed a new option on the menu today called "Set:
Power-On Keys". There are two options:
* Power
* Power and Numeric
Setting this to the second option forces the SA3200 to power itself on
when it receives the power key or any number key. When the box is off,
pressing a number on the remote forces the box to power itself on and
send the number pressed to the box. Not sure if this is a recent
firmware upgrade or not, but I just noticed it today. I'm with Rogers
Cable in Bowmanville, ON so at the very least this setting should be
available for anyone using this box with Rogers in Greater Toronto
Area. I've tested this by turning off the box and then doing a channel
change in Myth. Blasting a three-digit number when the box was off
worked everytime so this definitely seems like a solution to ensuring
that the SA3200 is on when Myth starts a recording on it.
