Yes, I'm using the latest kernel version 2.6.15.1 and lirc_serial module for 
almost 3 weeks now. And yes, you are correct that it won't compile properly. 
However, the work around is to download the latest version of lirc. The lirc 
0.7.2 will not work. Grab the latest/greatest version. I think I grab the 
cvs or snapshot. 

That took me freakin' 3 hours to figure out! I really was pissed off because 
mythtv was not honoring my commands in my remote. Found out that in lsmod, 
those modules were not loaded. Then in dmesg, I got unresolvable symbol. 
WHOA!!! :P
