first, what version of mythtv do you use and what version of the dsmyth
filter do you use?
i asume you want to stream mpeg files? if so is it from a dvb card or a pvr
card?

if you want to use the dsmyth filters to stream things you must make sure
the mysql settings in the config program is setup properly and that it
works.

Both of these behaviours seem to be correct to me, but are unfortunately not

not needed, the filters registers 2 new url protocol handlers that make most
mediaplayer able to use it.
if it doesn't work, the source filter is probably having some problems,
unfortunately there is no logging unless you use a debug build and a
debugger.

in v0.10 of the filters there is a few problems with mpeg files.
