i haven't been able to look at the slave right when the
master thinks it disappears but all other network services
on the slave don't seem to have issues.  for example, i've
never had issues with smtp or http on the slave.

a simple /etc/init.d/mythbackend restart is all it takes for
the master pick the slave back up.

does the slave send heartbeats to the master or does the
master occasionally poll the slave?  that might help me
narrow down which mythbackend is having issues.
