If you just want to rack mount the HDD, just buy a rack 
for the HDD.  All of my machines are so configured.  The 
tray for the HDD was about $14 and the rack was less than 
$20.  That way whenever I need a different OS I just stick 
the correct HDD in. They are all standard ATX cases.
