You're absolutely right, nVidia's drivers are actually rather good, VIA's
are NOT.
VIA only released drivers for a couple ancient distro's and require root
privileges to use (Want to play a video? Gotta be root) and are instable

Trust me on this one, don't trust VIA to give you good drivers.
