I have this on my hardware. It hangs when I enter graphical ( X ) but not
otherwise.
Append this to your boot string in grub ( or add it to the kernel line to
make it permanent in grub )
acpi=off noacpi
This does the trick for me. Worth a try maybe.
Also, you can install and test your memory with memtest86. That will run a
full test and report errors.
If you are getting regular lockups, try one thing at a time and your should
be able to diagnose it fairly easily. No heat, acpi, maybe starting to look
like hardware? Check your disks, any errors in the logs when it crashes?

Subject: [mythtv-users] System constantly locks up
My system has been bedevilled by lock ups for many months now.
Recently it has become an epidemic with lock ups happening every time
I try to use it, almost without fail. It's got to the point where I
have zero confidence in it recording a show or playing a show without
locking up. By lock up I mean that the machine won't respond to
keyboard, remote control, putty sessions etc. The only way to restore
service is to press the reset button.
I have tried different levels of mythfront/backend logging but there
doesn't seem to be anything there which indicates a problem. Ditto for
/var/log/messages.
I'm running 0.19 binary packages from ATrpms.
Does anyone have any similar experience with this to advise what to
do? I don't think it's heat as I installed a 12cm case fan and the
most recent lock up was at 51 degrees C. I'm wondering whether it
might be a dodgy memory stick, or not enough memory (256MB)?
System spec is that it's a combo back and frontend. 2.4Ghz Celeron
CPU, 80GB disk, 256MB RAM. Fedora Core 3.
Any suggestions welcome as not only WAF but even HAF are at an all time low!
Thanks,
Phill
