yes, I get the standby clock, and record/playback details

I also get problems if I have run mythfrontend as a non-root user, then 
exited (or it crashes) and I restart mythfrotnend as root user.

Have you set-up a "decent" mapping between the IMON infrared buttons and 
mythtv controls?
