No, there's just two facts you don't know. First, ATrpms only supports a
very limited number of kernels, and you have to be running one of them
(or upgrade to one of them) every time you do an upgrade. Second, the
*kmdl* packages have to be installed explicitly. I suspect all you
really need to do is:

# yum install lirc-kmdl-`uname -r`
