I was able to install the dependencies using additional "installation
sources" in Yast. See
http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_Package_Repositories for details.
suser-scrute source is especially interesting. It looks like it would have
been possible to install the whole of mythtv as packages from that source!
Also libmad required mad-devel instead.
