Have you set the channel number in 'Frequency ID:' in mythtv-setup.

I was surprised that its not covered in the official documentation at 
http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-23.html#ss23.27

What I did was to put spaces in the number like '1 0 1' so there is no need 
for a script and I can call irsend directly.
