Thanks for the link.

I can see that this fix will make the end problem go away. However, I
still wonder why the server goes away. I mean, there's no inactivity
here that can be causing the disconnection as far as I can see, so
what's the root cause of the problem? Maybe it's a MySQL problem after
all? However, if that's the case, why am I not seeing any disconnect
messages in the MySQL log files?

Oh well, go figure...
