I purchased a cheap card to try out MythTV before taking the plunge and
getting a more expensive card. I have a Hauppauge WinTV model 38061,
rev B226. The card works fine with xawtv, all the channels can be tuned
in, no problems.
I have followed the setup instructions exactly and can't get this to
work. Problems arise when I try to add a capture device when running
mythtv-setup.
Before I get into that, I should give some info about the system.
Running Slackware Linux 10.2 on a Intel P4 2.4 with 512MB RAM
mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.18
The card uses the video4linux bttv module for video and btaudio for
sound - both compiled as modules for the 2.6.14.3 kernel
Relavent output from lsmod:
Module Size Used by
btaudio 14864 0
soundcore 7776 1 btaudio
bttv 158096 0
tuner 39080 0
video_buf 18052 1 bttv

btcx_risc 4232 1 bttv
tveeprom 12688 1 bttv
i2c_core 17920 4 bttv,tuner,i2c_algo_bit,tveeprom
videodev 7424 1 bttv
snd_page_alloc 8840 0
And dmesg output:
bttv:

So everything seems to be installed and registered.
Looking at my /dev/, I have:
mythtv at mysystem:/dev# ls -l /dev/video*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 mythtv root 6 2005-12-08 16:45 /dev/video -> video0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 mythtv root 10 2006-03-07 00:54 /dev/video0 -> v4l/video0
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 1 2003-03-09 09:28 /dev/video1
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 2 2003-03-09 09:28 /dev/video2
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 3 2003-03-09 09:28 /dev/video3
mythtv at vindicta:/dev/v4l# ls -l
crw-rw---- 1 mythtv video 81, 64 2006-03-07 00:54 radio0
crw-rw---- 1 mythtv video 81, 224 2006-03-07 00:54 vbi0
crw-rw---- 1 mythtv video 81, 0 2006-03-07 00:54 video0
mythtv at mysystem:/dev# ls -l /dev/dsp*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 mythtv root 9 2006-03-07 01:00 /dev/dsp -> sound/dsp
crw-rw--w- 1 root audio 14, 3 2003-08-29 00:47 /dev/dsp0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 mythtv root 10 2006-03-07 01:00 /dev/dsp1 -> sound/dsp1
So the bttv driver is registered as video0 (which is linked to
/dev/v4l/video0) and btaudio to /dev/dsp0.
When adding a capture card via mythtv-setup, the following is already
entered:
Card type: Analog V4L capture card
Video device: /dev/v4l/video0
VBI device: /dev/vbi
Audio device: /dev/dsp
Audio sampling rate: None. <- changed to 32000
Default Input: Television
So everything is pretty much setup and ready to go. When I click
finish., the card is listed as: [ 0 : 00:00:00 ]. When I select this
entry to edit, the "Card Type" is listed as 0, but everything else is
the same. I also get a bunch of "QTime::fromString: Parameter out of
range" when I edit the capture device, but I read this is nothing to
worry about.
Looking at the capturecard database entries after doing the above, it
does list "cardtype" as v4l and everything else as it should.
I had similar problems earlier with the "directory to hold recordings".
Even though the entered directory existed with the correct user
permissions, I always received a "Path 0 does not exist" error although
the database entry was fine.
I also did a verbose output for the database and figure the problem lies
with reading from the database:
SELECT cardtype, videodevice, cardid, firewire_port,
firewire_node, dbox2_port, dbox2_host, dbox2_httpport FROM
capturecard WHERE hostname = 'myserver' ;
Running this via mysql provides the correct data:
+----------+-----------------+--------+---------------+---------------+------------+------------+----------------+
| cardtype | videodevice | cardid | firewire_port | firewire_node |
dbox2_port | dbox2_host | dbox2_httpport |
+----------+-----------------+--------+---------------+---------------+------------+------------+----------------+
| V4L | /dev/v4l/video0 | 1 | 0 | 2
| 31338 | NULL | 80 |
+----------+-----------------+--------+---------------+---------------+------------+------------+----------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
I've tried compiling from the source, install binaries for Slackware for
linuxpackages.net - I don't know what else to do! What is going on with
my setup?
Any help GREATLY appreciated!
Mike
