I just completed adding such a card to my MythTV system so the answer is
: Basically, yes. I did it with an AverTVHD card ($80 at buy.com).

that explains basically how to scan for channels and get them into Myth.

Depends on the card. Some can, some can't. The one I mentioned above
cannot. The DVB wiki http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/ATSC_cards
has a great page of information about supported hardware. Anything on
this list should work in Myth and be recognized as a DVB tuner. I
still have a PVR-500 and PVR-150 for my SD programming. Having the HD
tuner makes me just want more HD tuners and at that price, it's not much
more expensive than a PVR-150 but it doesn't get all the same channels
since I don't get my SD stations on QAM
