[mythtv-users] Why does going to live TV take so long?

Well, there does seem to be something odd going on here, because like some
of the others I have seen only speedups in livetv responsiveness in 0.19,
not the slowdowns that some are reporting. It would be good to understand
why there are these differences. Overall, my experience with 0.19 is that
livetv is supported better and working better than in the previous version.

A few random comments, related to previous messages in this thread:

- My old series 1 Tivo changed channels in less than 2 seconds. I know,
because I timed it shortly after getting started with MythTV for the first
time. Note that my old Tivo (which has since been decommissioned) was
hooked to a cable box, so I suspect that direct-to-cable Tivo users see even
faster channel changes. I've never really understood why Myth has always
been so much slower than my old Tivo, since my mythbox has a hugely faster
processor, faster disk, faster everything (except maybe tuner and
encoder?). 0.19 makes up a lot of ground on the Tivo, but is still not
there yet. Still, I am seeing only improvements.

- The browse mode is really great.

- As was mentioned before, I think the channel changes in Myth could be more
gracefully done somehow, even if the delay were to remain the same. Instead
of a frozen image and then a black screen, showing some kind of guide info
might eliminate some of the impression that something is going wrong.
