Reading this I was actually going to ask if you had considered just getting
a 4-port card.  I thought the overall speed and reliability of the card
would be better than a hub (I've had two hubs degrade or die on me over the
last couple years ).  The only two major advantages I see to the hub are (1)
not taking up a slot ( a valuable resource in many MythTV boxes based on
feedback here ) and (2) getting your USB ports up and available someplace
more convienent than the back of your machine.   A card solution would
probably cost less than a hub as well.
