[mythtv-users] Network outage on slave backend crashing master

I have been experimenting with a new wireless card in a slave machine
and have been suffering random dropouts of the wireless signal.
However, the frustrating part is that if the slave machine has a
backend process running when the network goes down, the backend proces
on the master dies requiring a restart (and the loss of any scheudled
recordings on the master).

My questions are:
i) have any other users experienced the same behaviour (I'm aware of
the lack of ability of the backend to notice when a frontend becomes
disconnected, but that's a different issue)
ii) why is the abrupt disconnection of a slave machine in this manner
able to effect such a ruinous outcome on the master? Shouldn't
disconnections (of either frontends or backends) be handled
gracefully?

Any thoughts/ideas warmly appreciated,
Nick
