   On that note, and in case anyone who nkows is reading, I was planning on 
dumping my entire / dir. no my PVR to my networked backup drive.

   I was thinking about using 'dump' for this;  is that best?  It's have to be 
from a Fedora install/rescue disc;  is it on it?

   That way if it all went pear-shaped I could 'restore' the thing.  My PVR is 
only configured with 2 partitions, root and mythtv.  Maybe boot as well.
