I think this is due to problems with some Debian unstable packages.  I
just ran into this problem today -- the (probably safe, but I can't
guarantee it) way to get around it is:

- Once you get the error about xfonts-encoding, look at the part of
the message where it lists the *.deb file
- Run "dpkg --force-overwrite --unpack <*.deb file from above>
- Now run "apt-get -f install", and you should be right as rain.
