[mythtv-users] Can't get PVR 150 to tune : "tuner type not set"?

After giving up on my PVR 500 card because only the second (/dev/video1)
tuner worked I decided to simplify the problem and purchase a PVR 150
today. Maybe I could buy my way out of the problem and get on with MythTV.
Instead I have a new problem. There is no tuned signal on the card.
I've tested the incoming coax cable signal via a TV and my PVR 500 used
to see channels.
All the test captures I do are completely black unless I use
# /usr/bin/ivtvctrl -p 0
in which case I at least get some static. Any other -p option yields all
black.
But then the command below used to tell me that there was a signal
present when I was using the PVR 500. # /usr/bin/ivtv-tune -c3 -tus-cable
/dev/video0: 61.250 MHz
So I tried the channel scan in mythsetup and it found no channels.
So I did the firmware process from the ivtv website. My log shows that
there are no firmware errors reported so that's probably fine.
In short, I'm stuck. Any help would restore my hopes for this process.
The ivtv driver is telling me that the tuner type is not set. Googling
that found that some people suggested the tuner was not supported.
Hopefully that is not true and I just missed something.
Random thoughts...
I tried two cold starts.
I tried doing /sbin/modprobe ivtv
I'm currently using the /etc/modprobe.conf lines from the Myth(TV)ology
howto but the ivtv page says they are not needed.
