[mythtv-users] time and timezones

Can someone explain to me what time my system should
be showing?  I mean, I know what UTC and GMT are but
my timezone is EST5EDT, shouldn't "real time" be what
the "date" command spurts out when run as the myth
user?

The root user seems to have the right time but my
Program Guide and the myth user seem to think I live
in UTC timezone.

Any comments are welcome.
