In Europe, we have about 8 TV programs or about 20 radio programs on one
satelite transponder. In my area (Hessen/Germany) all 24 DVB-T programs
are transmitted on 6 VHF/UHF channels (4 TV programs per 14 MBit/s
channel).

So there is need for multiplex recording. Having used VDR for years and
some experience with broken recordings because of error in TS streams, I'd
suggest to get a TS stream from the DVR device and remux it in software
into several MPEG streams. Most important will be to fork ONE process per
remux instance to prevent crashing the mythtv-backend and other remux
instances when a remux instance is crashed by errors in the TS stream
(which currently is quite annoying using MythTV with DVB).

I'd also add 20,- EUR of student's budget ;-)
