[mythtv-users] lousy playback quality with xvideo

I've got a myth box running on a Chaintech 7nif2 motherboard
(integrated geforce4 mx graphics, I believe). I'm running gentoo,
nvidia-drivers 1.0.8776 and kernel 2.6.17-gentoo-r8.

I've had this problem for quite a while now: whenever I playback
fullscreen video (in mythtv or otherwise) I get horizontal
"transients" randomly flashing across the screen. I'm not sure if
that's the best word to use or not, but basically, what I'm seeing
are very narry, white horizontal flashes in the video. Generally,
the picture is watchable, but annoying.

This happens in mythtv, xine and mplayer. In xine and mplayer,
however, if I switch to using the opengl video driver (instead of
xv), the "transients" go away.

Also, in mythtv, when I'm running in "normal" screen mode, I don't
see this effect. But if I switch to one of the altnerate screen
modes (i.e. using the "w" key during playback), those annoying
artifacts reappear.

Has anyone else seen this? If so, can I fix it or have mythtv use
the opengl video driver instead?

Thanks!
Matt
