Note that while this will get you mpeg-4 video, it won't get you xvid
and you're limited to 2-channel PCM or mp3 for the audio. There has
been some talk about desire for other formats, and I could send you some
scripts that almost work, but one issue is that the myth internal player
doesn't handle non-uniformly-spaced keyframes and that is what you tend
to get with mencoder/etc.
The problem is that the code that indexes keyframes was written with the
assumption that they are uniformly spaced. To fix it requires a number
of changes throughout the code, and when upgrading you'd probably need
to re-index all your video (unless the code were written to handle both
schemes, which isn't nearly as tidy).
I don't know if any devs have weighed in on it, but I've gotten the
impression that while they probably would tend to agree that it would be
nice to handle non-uniform keyframes it isn't quite worth the work at
this point. I'm sure if somebody came up with a patch that fully solved
the problem but was backwards-compatible it would be likely to be merged
in a later release, and that a non-backwards-compatible patch might
receive some attention of some sort.
Note that I don't speak in ANY way for the devs - just my impression...
