[mythtv-users] Still scratching my head over xvmc

Hi all

I have a working hdtv source, but it's unwatchable right now; it
stutters, drops frames, etc. I posted about this a few days ago. One
of the responses was:

"Sounds like xvmc isn't happening. There are a couple active threads
explaining how to make sure it's enabled and to get it enabled if
it's not. Take a look at those and add to the existing threads if it
stil doesn't work for you."

I'm not seeing any of these threads regarding xvmc, so maybe it's
time to start a new one.

(Whenever I get all this information together, I'm going to see if
there's anything useful I can add to http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/
index.php/XvMC)

Hardware:

I forgot CPU exactly, but dmesg reports "CPU0: AMD Athlon(tm) 64
Processor 3000+ stepping 02"

video card: nVidia Corporation NV44 [GeForce 6200 TurboCache(TM)]

memory 1 GB ddr (forgot speed)

motherboard I forgot, though I know it's based on nvidia's nforce
chipset

...sorry for all the "forgetting", but I built this thing a year ago,
and now it's hooked up and rather inaccessible

Software:

myth 0.20
linux kernel 2.6.17
nvidia 8776 drivers

Other info, which may be relevant based on some of the threads I've
read:

Myth is definitely set to use xvmc, but when I press the "i" key
during playback I see a blue box with a red border at the top right
of the screen. If I press it again, I see a blue trapezoid with an
upper left red box on the lower portion of the screen. Since I hear
I'm supposed to see a grey box instead, I take it this means xvmc is
not enabled after all?

root at corn:~# ldconfig -v | grep GL
         libGLcore.so.1 -> libGLcore.so.1.0.8776
         libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.1.0.8776
         libGLU.so.1 -> libGLU.so.1.3.060501

root at corn:~# cat /etc/X11/XvMCConfig
libXvMC.so.1

I also tried setting this to libXvMCNVIDIA_dynamic.so.1 as in the
wiki article and restarting X, but I still see the blue OSD.

Myth is a binary package from http://www.debian-multimedia.org. It
looks like it was configured with xvmc, since I see this in the
control file:

ifeq "$(DEB_BUILD_ARCH)" "i386"
         CONFIGURE_OPTS += --tune=i486 --enable-xvmc --enable-xvmc-
vld --enable-xvmc-pro --enable-mmx

So what is my next step in getting xvmc working so I can watch HD?

Thanks
