Slackware 10.2
MythTV .20
kernel 2.6.17.13

I see there is a ticket with regards to this error (ticket #2238) and
have a question about it. I am getting the error as described below
when trying to record from an STB controlled via an IR blaster and
coming in on the S-Video port of a Compro VideoMate TV Gold Plus. I
am able to watch live TV with no problems (sound, video, channel
changing all OK), but when I try and record a show, I get the
following error and a blank recording.

2006-10-03 11:00:02.294 TVRec(3): Changing from None to RecordingOnly
2006-10-03 11:00:02.301 TVRec(3): HW Tuner: 3->3
2006-10-03 11:00:03.744 ret_pid(0) child(3814) status(0x0)
2006-10-03 11:00:04.748 ret_pid(3814) child(3814) status(0x0)
2006-10-03 11:00:04.750 External Tuning program exited with no error
VIDIOCGCHAN: Invalid argument
strange error flushing buffer ...

My question is, would this error cause me to get a blank recording, or
should I start looking elsewhere for the reason behind blank
recordings?

I do have the following line in /etc/rc.d/rc.local to unmute the card
at boot in case that makes a difference (being that the ticket is for
muted sound):

/usr/local/bin/v4lctl -c /dev/video0 volume mute off
