Actually, if he's using MythTV 0.19 and MySQL 5, the fix would be 
upgrading Myth to a version that supports MySQL 5 (0.19-fixes or 
0.20-fixes).  :)

(This is especially the case since that's not the only MySQL 5 fix in 
MythTV 0.19-fixes)
