Somehow I get the feeling boycotting won't affect them in the least
bit. DRM isn't all that bad in itself, it's how Open Source works
with it (or doesn't work it...) is how we feel it's negative to us.
Blue Ray is a good technology, and boycotting it because it will be
able to handle all the DRM going into Blue Ray movies (what are we
going to call them Blue Ray DVDs?) doesn't seem like a good stance to
take. I'm definitely not saying that it's a great idea that
Encryption exist on things like this, I think that encrypting video
discs is a horrible idea and only goes to screw the innocent consumer
in the end. BUT... It's not like any of this is 'new'. Blue Ray is
going to happen, and it's successor, and it's successor. If you
'boycott' Blue Ray you are only going to be hurting yourself. Hiding
under a rock is no way to fight the encryption battle.

My thought is that we instead need to entice the backers of Blue Ray
(Sony obviously, but the others as well) to give Linux an option.
Free, probably not in any sense of the word, but at least we could get
something that will allow us to continue to enjoy the future of
digital video mediums and to connect our MythTV boxes up to future
digital displays and have everything work with or without DRM.

It's obvious someone will eventually come up with a way to watch Blue
Ray discs on a Blue Ray player in Linux, I just hope that for the
future of Linux Media it's a legal option and allows Linux to thrive
more in the future Multimedia world than it has in the current one.
