I can't comment on the 6600, but I have a frontend with a Athlon64 
3200+ and a 7300GS which works just fine.  I'm only doing PAL SD, but 
playback with 0.20 is around 9-14%.  I have no need of XvMC so I 
couldn't tell you how well the card works with it.

It was cheap enough, passively cooled and is working great for me...
