[mythtv-users] image of mythtv system

I'd suggest G4L (Ghost for linux) using the Ultimate-Boot-CD as a source.

It'll take a ghost-like sector image of a partition or disk and upload to
FTP server, then to recover, you can boot off the UBCD again and slurp it
down from the FTP to disk.

I've used this is quite some success on various Linux servers.

Just my opinion mind.

Cheers,

Paul

Actually,
What I want to do is not a backup. It is just a system disk trying to save a
lot of time when I need a reinstall.
I am already backing up my database and recordings regularly. What I want
exactly is I think, just after a fresh install,
I will make the image, so I will not bother with what is inside the database
or the recordings :). When something happes,
I will just boot the DVD install/expand image tadaa I have my fresh system
back. It is like creating another knoppix/gentoo/... system, but it is
specific to my hardware with the myth and everything installed.

Thanks for the ideas,

Bilge.

Hello,

I typically make a simple tar/compressed image of systems that I want
to re-deploy.

I boot off of a gentoo cd or other livecd.
mount your filesystems( / /boot )
startup nfs
mkdir /mnt/tmp
mount a remote server ie nfsserver:/opt/backup /mnt/tmp
cd /mnt/gentoo
tar cvfz /mnt/tmp/mythtv_img.tgz *
