[mythtv-users] X won't do 1080i anymore

Until yesterday I was running kernel 2.6.16 with nVidia driver 8178 and all was
well: I ran mythtv in 1080i, and it switched between 1080i and 720p as needed.
Then the X server wouldn't start anymore, complaining about the GL module not
being there. I figured I'd try reinstalling the nVidia driver, but couldn't get
it to build anymore (the error in the logfile was not helpful, it pretty much
just said "error").
I then upgraded to kernel 2.6.17 and nVidia driver 8776 and tried again, and
while X now starts again, it absolutely refuses to run in 1080i.
Here's the relevant section from Xorg.0.log:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "ATSC-1080-59.94i"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "ATSC-1080-60i"; removing.

(II) NVIDIA(0): Validated modes:

(II) NVIDIA(0): "ATSC-720-60p"

(II) NVIDIA(0): "ATSC-480-60p"
(II) NVIDIA(0): "800x600"
(II) NVIDIA(0): "640x480"
Any ideas as to how I might force the card back in to doing 1080i?
