It's likely the MCE receiver is not IR-compatible with the DCT's
remote. I don't have any experience with this particular setup, but
you see the same problems when trying to record non-RC5 remotes with a
Hauppauge IR receiver (which use RC5 codes).

Do you have a serial (or other unemcumbered) IR receiver that you
could repeat the experiment with?

It appears to be up to the discretion of your box provider whether
they activate the serial port, if they don't then I'd get (or solder
yourself) a serial port receiver and record the remote using that.
