I spent yesterday installing Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) following the guide
I did the frontend/backend combo. I have a Hauppauge 500 card with a
homebuilt serial port IR receiver and a separate home-built serial port
transmitter on a Via EPIA MII10000 board.
I am changing to Ubuntu because I had a weird problem with LIRC on my
LFS (www.linuxfromscratch.org) system that I never could get figured out.
Anyway, when I got it all installed and setup, I found that whenever I
tried to watch a video, the system would lock up (completely, couldn't
even connect with ssh). I tried for a little bit to figure out what was
wrong, but to no avail. I decided that maybe it was due to my
installation of the openchrome video drivers from svn (which I later
found was unnecessary) because of the timing of the issue.
So I decided to just start over and reinstall everything. Everything
went fine, I even watched a couple of old recorded shows (recorded when
it was an LFS system, dumped and restored the database). So everything
was great. I hadn't rebooted the system since the initial installation
and I wanted to make sure everything was initializing correctly on boot,
so I rebooted. Everything came up fine except that now the system locks
up again if I try to watch any video, recorded or live. I can watch
/dev/video0 with mplayer just fine. I did this with mythfrontend
dumping to a log. Below is the log up to the point of the crash. It
may be a problem with XvMC, but that worked fine before reboot.
Unfortunately, I don't have any logs from when it was working properly
to see if the error shown here was occurring previously.
Does anyone have any ideas that could help me figure out what is going on?
