My recommendation is to follow the directions here: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/FireWire Compile firewire_tester and make sure that you get a successful transfer everytime. Then make sure that your setting in mythtv-setup match (node, port, broadcast or point-to-point). Test in mythfrontend using LiveTV first. If that does not work, then recordings won't work either.
