[mythtv-users] PVR-350 - no sound in recordings (sometimes)

I'm running myth on an Intel P3 800 MHz 256 MB ram machine.  One
capture/display card:  Hauppauge PVR-350.
 
I had been running with mythTV .19 and Fedora FC4 for months with no
problems.
 
I recently upgraded to Fedora FC5 and mythTV .20.  Fresh install of FC5
(with all disks formatted) and yum upgrade was done on 9/22, and a fresh
install of .20 from rpm's was done on 9/23.
 
Yesterday I booted the machine at 17:54 and set up to record one show with
the PVR-350 s-video/analog audio input followed by three shows with the
PVR-350's tuner.
 
I tried to play back these shows yesterday at 23:26 and found no sound had
been recorded in the files.  When I tried to play back the first show I
found the machine to be in a horrible state.  The first show started to play
silently but soon froze.  The escape key on the Hauppauge remote eventually
got it out of the playback mode, but the frame from the show was still on
the TV screen as a background overlaid with the myth menu.
 
Rebooting the machine fixed the problem.  I could then watch live TV through
both s-video and tuner, and I could record through both s-video and tuner.
All audio was fine with the new recording.  The previous recordings, though,
had perfect video but no audio.
 
The video was fine but the audio was missing from the files recorded during
the bad period.   Somehow the machine got into a bad state between boot time
of 17:54 and record time of 19:00.  An f-prot virus scan was running during
this time, and there was probably one mail download from a dovecot pop
server running on the myth machine (both of these used to play well with
myth under FC4 and .19).
 
I'm not sure what to look for.

With the last three lines repeated several times.

There are no log entries from 18:14 to 23:26. The recording period was 19:00
to 23:30.

The bottom line:  Install over the weekend completed Sunday morning, show
successfully recorded Sunday night, four shows recorded with no sound Monday
night.  

Any ideas?  What caused the problem?  Or even what the problem was at
23:26:39...
