IMHO, a very wise idea.  If you just want to take them off menus, you 
can do that by editing the menu theme files (they're simple XML files).  
I recommend making a copy and putting it under the ~/.mythtv directory 
so you can delete it when it's no longer necessary and so it's not 
overwritten by MythTV updates.  Search the lists for more info on 
editing menus ( http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/ ) or hack 
your way through (it's pretty easy to figure out once you get started).
