I think I have the ASUS version of that same board. You don't say  
which distro/kernel you're running. I'm running Gentoo and had  
similar issues with a kernel I built. I eventually clued in and set  
CONFIG_HZ to something other than the default '100'. Right now I'm  
running 2.6.20.2 with CONFIG_HZ=300 and it's smooth recording and  
playback for me now.
